Bathed in the golden light of dusk, with the cows gathered around the jewel bedecked manifestation of “Swayam Bhagavan” , Gopashtami is celebrated as the joyful coming-of-age festival when Nanda Maharaj gives Shrinathji, the seven-year-old “balak” form of Lord Krishna, the responsibility for herding the cows of Braj for the very first time.
